Context

LittleBigPlanet was built around an unusually powerful idea: players weren't simply consuming a game. They were creating experiences for one another.

The community was therefore fundamental to the product itself.

During my time at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, I led community strategy for LittleBigPlanet 3, working across social content, community programming and the tools supporting player participation.

My role

Developing the social strategy and content plan for LittleBigPlanet 3, contributing to community moderation tooling, briefing the LBP.me user-generated content portal and creating programming that showcased player creativity.

That included being part of the team presenting the game on stage at Sony's E3 press conference, showing the game live in front of the industry's biggest audience.

The work

Community strategy and content

Developed the social strategy and content programme for LittleBigPlanet 3, placing player participation and creativity at the centre of community communications.

The work

UGC discovery and infrastructure

Briefed the LBP.me portal from initial concept through delivery.

The portal supported discovery of community-created levels, helping connect players with experiences created by other members of the community.

The work

Moderation and community tools

Contributed to the development of moderation tools supporting the management of a creative player community.

The work

Creator recognition and programming

Created and hosted livestreams and video content showcasing player-created levels.

These programmes celebrated the creativity of the community and gave player-generated experiences visibility through official channels.

What this taught me

The strongest communities don't simply gather around products. They contribute to them.

LittleBigPlanet reinforced my belief that community strategy is most powerful when it considers the entire player experience — from the tools people use to participate, to the ways their creativity is recognised and shared.

That thinking has influenced how I've approached community building, creator engagement and product collaboration throughout my career.

The strongest communities don't simply gather around products. They contribute to them.
